Second day of the tournament was already a sensational one. Though some might expect that first seeded teams may have problems to win easily, nobody expected both Russian teams to lose without winning any single game. Six draws combined with losses of Grischuk and Pogonina left Russia without any match points. A situation rather unimaginable in the chess world.
Some other higher rated teams also suffered defeat today. England clearly lost to Greece, losing both games with white. Czech Republic defeated Italy – Navara stopped Caruana, while Laznicka and Hracek won on second and third board. Most balanced fight were in Germany-Poland match (4 wins of white pieces) and Georgia-Hungary(brilliant game by Judith Polgar).
In women event other top seeded teams won their matches. Georgia defeated Bulgaria(3-1), Poland outplayed Spain(3-1) and Ukraine and Armenia demolished their opponents(Belarus and Belgium) with 3,5-0,5 score
